Wet Hair Method: How To Perform A Head Check

Head lice is an embarrassing nuisance easily spread between friends and family members. Luckily, it can be easily taken care of if identified early on. While there can be various ways to go through this process, we encourage the Wet Hair Method because it’s fast, easy to do, and accurate.

Wet Hair Method

The Wet Hair Method is the simple process of combing through dampened hair with a fine-toothed comb and identifying head lice and nits (lice eggs). This identification is key to the removal of lice.

You’ll need:

  • Conditioner
  • 1 Regular Wide-toothed Comb
  • 1 Nit-Free Terminator Comb
  • Bright Light
  • White Paper Towel

Directions: When your hair is damp, completely cover it with your conditioner and comb from root to tip, using a wide-toothed comb. Do this on all parts of your hair until completely detangled. After you have combed through and are able to see all parts of your hair, repeat this process with a your Nit-Free Terminator Comb, applying a gentle pressure along the scalp. Once finished, wipe your comb on your white paper towel.

Perform this check under a bright light for visibility purposes. After wiping your Nit-Free Terminator Comb on your white paper towel, identify any brown bits on the towel. These brown eggs indicate an infestation and is a sign that you should act right away and contact a trained professional in lice removal.

Talk to your trained professional about what you have found and treatment options for you and your family.

Head Lice Solutions

You have head lice. Your scalp is ridden with tiny red bumps and you are the victim of endless itches. It’s frustrating, we know. Not to worry, with approximately 6 to 12 million people affected every year with head lice, head lice is a common issue.

Thankfully when caught early, head lice is able to be removed effectively. Here are 3 ways you can get rid of your lice problem.

Perform A Head Check

When your hair is damp, completely cover it with your conditioner and comb from root to tip, using a wide-toothed comb. Do this on all parts of your hair until completely detangled. After you have combed through and are able to see all parts of your hair, repeat this process with your lice comb.

Lice Comb

Lice combs are fine-toothed combs designed to pull and remove lice and nits (lice eggs) from the scalp. When looking for a lice comb, look for the following qualities:

Long Teeth With Fine Separation

Long teeth with a fine separation allows the comb to pull away at more nits and lice in fewer passings as well as ensure effectiveness for all hair types.

Sturdy And Durable

A sturdy and durable comb able to withstand regular use and contact with lice treatment is important. It eases the head lice removal process by allowing the hair to be combed through without uncomfortable tugging or damaging of the hair.

We use our own, Nit-Free Terminator Comb, it effectively and comfortably removes lice and their eggs from the scalp. Remember, lice are six legged insects approximately the size of a sesame seed and cling to the hair strands. They are not easy to remove.

Lice Treatment

You will see many over the counter and topical treatments in the stores and readily available to you. We do not advise settling with these treatments because often, they are simply not enough and are not able to effectively take care of the issue. Often, over the counter treatments are merely topical pesticides that have zero effect on a premature nit. Before you do anything, consult a trained professional in lice removal and work with them to find the best, pesticide-free solution for you.
